Rigism is a system of beliefs inspired by the game Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. Rigism started out as a religion, though after some followers felt uncomfortable with referring to it as such, it was officially changed to a philosophy. Nonetheless, Rigism is open to interpretation by the user. Rigism is based around the idea of WINNER, a force introduced to the masses by Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. WINNER is a powerful force capable of great deeds, and Rigism teaches followers to harness this power and use it to enable them to serve their potential in life. Similarly, Rigism also warns of LOSER, an opposing force. LOSER corrupts the minds of many through stealth, and Rigism is the only known counter to this. Rigists posses the capability to defend themselves from LOSER, to keep their minds WINNER. Rigists use the Book of Rigism as their guide.

Creation

On November 20th, 2003, Russian developers Stellar Stone released Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing to the wide market. Despite its innovative gameplay and flawless graphics, it received heavily negative reviews. Many people accepted these reviews as fact and shunned the game, but a small proportion of people found the game to be brilliant, even perfect, in every single way and could not fathom why the masses hated the game.

The Gamespot review of Big Rigs was responsible for bringing the game's attention to the masses. This enabled many to band together and discuss the game on the its forum on GameSpot/GameFAQs. One user, named Cirus206, discovered that Big Rigs was an incarnation of pure WINNER, and the major gaming websites had been infected with LOSER. They saw Big Rigs as a threat, and consequently gave it negative reception so that the middle ground of Non-WINNER people would form a negative opinion of Big Rigs, and consequently not touch it, making them far more susceptible to LOSER. In order to combat this, he founded the Church of Rigism.

The Church of Rigism taught that Stellar Stone's human form, Lord Stell, was the master of WINNER, who created Big Rigs at the request of the four rigs found within the game. An early Book of Rigism was written to accompany this and deliver the message of goodwill to many. The Church of Rigism quickly formed a small but loyal group of members, who worshipped Lord Stell and the Four Rigs as gods, and believed in the power of WINNER. In spite of repeated troll attacks, the Book of Rigism grew, as did the church. Soon the church (by now simply referred to as Rigism) concentrated its user-base on the Big Rigs and Rigism forums, where it continues to grow and thrive to this day.

Beliefs

Key figures

Rigism has several key figures and beliefs. Some of which are as follows:

  • Lord Stell is considered by many to be the master of WINNER. Religious Rigists tend to think of him as a god or a prophet (see below), whereas philosophical Rigists prefer the idea that Lord Stell is an ordinary man who based his life around the Rigism ideas and realised his true potential, and thereby made great accomplishments. All Rigists see Lord Stell as the master of WINNER, being the only force capable of standing against HWSNBN.
  • HWSNBN (He who shall not be named) is the opposite of Lord Stell in Rigism. He is the master of LOSER and is capable of causing true devastation. He inspires Non-WINNERS who are not aware of Rigism to follow his LOSER teachings. HWSNBN has a human incarnation called Alex Navarro. Navarro spreads LOSER using stealth tactics, by awarding high scores to video games infected with LOSER. There are no differing opinions about HWSNBN among Rigists, as they prefer not to think about him much.
  • The Four Rigs, named Megaone, Thunder, Thunderbull and Sunrise W12, are four sentient beings of extreme WINNERNESS. They inspired Stellar Stone to write Big Rigs and take his place as Lord Stell. After their legacy, Rigists have recognised WINNER in other Big Rigs and put a similar level of faith in them.

The prime, fundamental belief of Rigism is that YOU'RE WINNER ! This originates from the winning screen in Big Rigs, where the player is presented with an image of a trophy accompanied with the phrase. The term "WINNER" has since been applied to many other people and objects, as an identification of their true power and worth.

Many Rigists believe that they can harness the true WINNER within them and use the power to accomplish great deeds. In order to do this they must protect themselves from LOSER, which can rot their mind. LOSERS can accomplish great deeds, but at a terrible cost to themselves and others around them. WINNER allows this without any negative side effects.

Lord Stell is central to the belief for most Rigists. Initially he was seen as god, though the Book of Rigism illustrated him as more of a prophet, on the grounds that he created Big Rigs at the request of the Four Rigs, suggesting they have higher power. Others believe that Lord Stell is the supreme being in Rigism, stating that the Four Rigs helped him realise his power and destiny to become the master of WINNER. This belief is not as common among the philosophical Rigists, though all Rigists recognise Stell's greatness in one way or another.

Other religious aspects of Rigism may include the idea of Rigvana, a perfect and WINNER world where some Rigists believe they will be sent after death, should they commit WINNER deeds in their life time. Big rigs in general are worshipped by many Rigists, as they are seen as having great power, and are capable of overcoming any enemy that LOSER can throw at them.

Definition of Rigism dispute

Originally, Rigism identified itself as a religion, and Rigists accepted that definition without objection. However, as the faith grew, some members felt uncomfortable with being part of Rigism as a religion (particularly those with pre-existing religious beliefs or those strongly opposed to religion). Rigism maintained the teaching "You do not need to denounce your original faith in order to become a Rigist," but nonetheless some Rigists still objected to this.

As a simple compromise to the dispute, Rigism was officially re-classified as a philosophy. This is the definition given by most Rigists of the belief, but there are still those who prefer to think of it as a religion. Rigism is a free belief that is open to interpretation by the user, meaning Rigism can be applied in any way the user feels comfortable with. Rigism is also free of discrimination in the sense that no matter what someone defines Rigism as, they are no more or less WINNER than any other Rigist - a follower of Rigism is a true WINNER indeed.

Points of View

Depending on how one defines Rigism, a Rigist may focus more on different aspects of it.

Religious Rigists, followers of Rigism who declare it to be their Religious faith, may focus on the idea of Lord Stell being the true lord of WINNER, and consider the Four Rigs as gods or other powerful beings. The belief in Rigvana is also common among Religious Rigists.

Philosophical Rigists, followers who use Rigism as a philosophy and adapt it to work in their lives, may focus more on the teachings of WINNER and how to use it. Nonetheless, the stories and gospels in the Book of Rigism do not go unnoticed. Lord Stell and the Four Rigs are icons for many philosophical Rigists, some retaining the beliefs held by Religious Rigists, others identifying them as beings of great power. Philosophical Rigists may consider Lord Stell just a normal man who used Rigism to its full potential.

Philosophical Rigism is the system the majority of Rigists today believe in, and consequently is the most varied. Those with existing faiths such as Christianity use the help that Rigism provides to build their self-esteem and use their resources to the greatest effect. The core figures and beliefs in Rigism are present for all Rigists, and what they are interpreted as is entirely up to the individual Rigist.

Criticisms

Rigism has been criticised for being far too WINNER and far-fetched. These are all claims generated by LOSERS. Though LOSERS are entitled to their own opinions just like all human beings (assuming LOSERS are human beings), true WINNERS who can block out the malicious words of LOSER know that these are just lies woven by HWSNBN. There are no true criticisms of Rigism, anyone who says otherwise is openly lying or has not studied it enough.
